At $9.95 per month for five extensions and 300 minutes, FreedomVoice’s FreedomStart is an excellent value, but other services we've reviewed offer more extensions and the same minutes for the same price. They offer a free trial for 15 days that includes the number of minutes in your selected plan. They offer Find Me/Follow Me (which sets forwarding rules) and an auto attendant (which is a custom menu that directs calls), as well as voicemail to email and voicemail alerts. You can save an unlimited number of voicemails for up to 30 days or even get voice-to-text transcription for an additional fee. They include Internet fax service with your plan. FreedomVoice offers quality phone and email support available 24/7.


FreedomVoice’s FreedomStart plan comes with 300 minutes for up to five extensions. This plan costs $9.95 per month, which works out to about 3 cents per minute, which beats our Market Standard of 6 cents per minute for this level. FreedomVoice offers higher level plans, such as Freedom Suite that comes with 2500 minutes and 100 extensions.

Phone Numbers

FreedomVoice provides a local or toll-free number with a monthly subscription. They offer 800 numbers and vanity numbers as well, but these numbers require a $10 and $30 setup fee, respectively. Porting a number you already have into your PBX system costs $30 with FreedomVoice. The service does not offer any international numbers.

Online Interface

FreedomVoice has a good quality online interface that includes a setup wizard. The online interface in a virtual PBX system allows you to set up all facets of your phone system in one easy-to-use web platform. The interface gives you access to call logs and enables you to make a block call list for numbers you want to stop receiving calls from. FreedomVoice’s interface also will let you record calls for an additional $69.95 per month. This service gives you the ability to create an online address book, but you cannot import your Outlook contacts directly into your interface. You also cannot set call handling rules through the interface.


FreedomVoice allows you to store voicemails online for 30 days. You can receive your voicemails by email or download them directly from the interface to your computer. You can also get voicemail-to-text transcriptions, which are available for $10 a month, plus 25 cents for every 30 seconds transcribed.

Call Handling

FreedomVoice offers a Find Me/Follow Me handling system that redirects calls from one extension to another when the call is not answered, which meets our Market Standard for virtual PBX systems. One of the main functions of a PBX system is to set rules on how calls are handled when your number is dialed. While on a call, you can transfer or place a caller on hold by using only the keypad. The provider also offers call screening that lets you see who is calling before answering. You can also set up a custom menu or auto attendant, which lets people calling into your PBX system decide which department they need to be routed to (e.g. 1 for sales, 2 for customer service, etc.). FreedomVoice lets you define how long someone sits in a queue before routing them elsewhere. In addition, the provider allows you to make calls from outside of the U.S. through the PBX system, which could help save money on long distance charges if you are on an international business trip. The audio on FreedomVoice is relatively clear with no static and high quality overall.

Conference Calling, Internet Fax, and Mobile Apps

Freedom Voice offers both conference calling and Internet faxing. Like many services, FreedomVoice bills conference calls as a calculation of how many people are on the call times the number of minutes used. FreedomVoice also gives you moderator features to let you control all aspects of the conference. In addition, the service includes the ability to send and receive faxes.
